Technical Assistance to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources under the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme in Nigeria

Itad provided support to the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) element of The Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform programme.

23/08/2006

The Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme (WSSSRP) was an EU-funded initiative that aimed to improve water governance, supply, sanitation and service delivery in six focal states in Nigeria.

Our role

Itad provided support to the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) element of the programme. We contributed to participatory water resources planning and management in the Hadejia-Jama’are and Cross River basins. In each basin, Itad assisted the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in the establishment of River Basin Management Commissions. We supported the Ministry in drafting a strategic plan for the restructuring of the River Basin Development Authorities. We helped to identify, organize and carry out the training needs of the new institutions, and looked at data collection systems. We also developed an Integrated River Basin Water Resources Management and Development Plan in the Cross River Basin.
