Girl Hub, Monitoring, Learning and Results Support

Itad provided monitoring, learning & results support to Girl Hub, a strategic collaboration between the DFID and the Nike Foundation.

Girl Hub is a strategic collaboration between the Department for International Development and the Nike Foundation, designed to bring together the expertise of both organisations to transform the lives of adolescent girls.

Girl Hub’s work

Currently operating in Rwanda, Ethiopia and Nigeria, their work aims to shift the social norms that hold girls back, and drive better investments that directly benefit girls. Girl Hub’s work is concentrated in four areas: Advocacy, bringing girls’ voices to the forefront; Brand and Communication, developing social communications to inspire and engage girls and shape how societies view and value them; Partnerships and Policy, informing and influencing decision makers, and Insights and Knowledge, creating robust data to track the impact of their work on girls. Its mission is to empower the 250 million adolescent girls living in poverty to reach their full potential.

Our role

The aim of this consultancy was to review and synthesize the research & evidence that Girl Hub commissioned in accordance with its theory of change (ToC) and logframe to understand what they had learnt and achieved to frame their strategic thinking.

Our approach

This assignment was carried out between August and September 2014 by three Itad staff members with particular expertise in developing organisational monitoring and evaluation systems, supporting strategy development, undertaking reviews and syntheses of research evidence, and developing theories of change. The evidence review followed a four-step process: (1) we categorised documents according to the nature of evidence presented;(2) we reviewed the documents to identify findings which substantiated the focus areas of the ToC; (3) we reviewed the documents to identify the extent to which Girls Hub’s activities correspond to the focus areas of the ToC; (4) we reviewed the documents to identify information that pointed towards any specific changes that Girl Hub has contributed to and how these ‘results’ align with the ToC.
