Tom Gillhespy is a Principal Consultant at Itad with over 15 years’ experience working in fragile and conflict-affected settings. He has spent over 10 years working at the grassroots level to support local peacebuilding interventions. He currently works closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and DFID, managing teams to deliver high-quality MEL services. In addition to being a MEL specialist, Tom has expertise in locally-led programming, security sector reform and the reintegration of ex-combatants, preventing violent extremism, and mine action.
Tom’s combination of experience of local-level implementation and strategic support at the donor level give him a rounded experience that combines theoretical rigour with the realities on the ground. He has a master’s in the anthropology of conflict and violence and has worked in a variety of country contexts including in the Middle East, South Asia and in countries across Africa.
