What you’ll learn
Building strong foundations
You’ll gain a practical understanding of:
- different types of monitoring, evaluation and learning clients
- organisational and political contexts they operate within
- the pressures, incentives and trad-offs that shape their decisions
You will practice using client profiling and stakeholder mapping tools to identify key decision-makers, influencers and potential blockers, as well as to establish clear ways of working, shared expectations and trust-building behaviours from day one.
Leading client engagement
We’ll explore how to communicate clearly and manage expectations proactively to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams. You’ll learn how to maintain credibility, build productive working relationships and influence stakeholders without formal authority, including tailoring engagement approaches to different client roles, organisational cultures and levels of interest or influence.
Being a trusted advisor
We’ll discuss how to recognise when trust may come under pressure and respond constructively to challenges, tensions or difficult conversations. You’ll have the opportunity to practice approaches for:
- navigating sensitive issues
- Involving senior colleagues appropriately
- delivering difficult findings respectfully
The module will also cover closing projects in a way that captures learning, protects relationships and keeps the door open for future collaboration.
