Centre for Development Impact Update – Winter 2017

The past six months have seen some exciting changes at the Centre for Development Impact (CDI).

7/12/2017

We welcomed our new director, Giel Ton, who, as a research fellow at IDS brings with him significant experience in the design of mixed-methods impact evaluations in agricultural value chains and private-sector development, and new deputy director, Rachel Eager, who, as head of Itad’s Knowledge Hub works across the company providing technical and methodological advice and coordinating internal knowledge curation and synthesis.

We also said goodbye and thank you to outgoing director, Chris Barnett, who steps into a role on the CDI board.

In November, we convened a panel of global development experts to discuss ‘the role of evidence in a changing world’ as part of our work on the new frontiers for evaluation. Michael Anderson (Visiting Fellow at the Center for Global Development), Owen Barder (Vice President, Director of Center for Global Development Europe) and Claire Melamed (Executive Director of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data) took part in a lively discussion, chaired by IDS director Melissa Leach. As well as having a live audience of development practitioners, researchers and professionals, the event was streamed over Facebook, reaching a worldwide audience which included participants from over 12 countries. Catch up with the recording here.

We also continue to hold a range of CDI seminars, and are looking forward to some exciting events and publications in 2018.
