The Impact Evaluation of the African Regional Capacity Building Network for HIV/AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Care Project (ARCAN) was a multi-country study covering Tanzania/Zanzibar, Kenya and Ethiopia.
The aim of the project
The aim of the assignment was to assess the impact of ARCAN training courses in increasing capacity among healthcare practitioners in the delivery of HIV/AIDS-related services in prevention, care and treatment interventions in order to improve the quality of general healthcare in the participating countries.
Our role
Itad provided the Team Leader / Project Manager as well as a team of five consultants including an epidemiologist/statistician, a public health physician and master trainers. The evaluation methodology focused on generating data on the improvements in the capacity of trainees (health practitioners) through internationally recognised capacity assessment methods and then assessing the level to which service delivery in case study areas had improved.
Findings of the evaluation were documented and presented at a dissemination conference, while recommendations were made to inform the design of the ARCAN 2 Project.
