Pierre Townsend joined Itad in 2019 as a Principal Consultant. Prior to Itad, he was Senior Humanitarian Adviser at DFID for eight years. In this capacity, he advised on programmes in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Libya. Prior to this, Pierre spent over 10 years with the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) in various senior roles, with field postings in the Balkans, Africa and Latin America.
Pierreās main area of expertise is in the design and delivery of aid programmes in fragile and conflict-affected settings. He has particularly extensive experience in programme-cycle management, systems-building and results measurement. Across a range of complex emergencies, Pierre has provided senior-level advisory input into the design and implementation of humanitarian policy, notably in the areas of refugee programming, UN reform and social protection.
Pierre has conducted reviews in a range of contexts including the Middle East, North and South America, South and Southeast Asia, and Central and Northeast Africa. He is fluent in French and English and has a good working knowledge of Spanish.
