Applying multipliers to tourism in Kosovo

12/07/2017

Most programmes face challenges in assessing and reporting the wider impact of their interventions. In the tourism sector, many programmes aim to improve the supply side (attractions, facilities) as well as the demand side (destination marketing). The effect of more tourists arriving, staying longer and spending more money is often not that easily assessed. The Promoting Private Sector Employment (PPSE) programme in Kosovo is testing a methodology to report these wider impacts. PPSE combines intervention-based research with statistical data provided by international institutions, to develop multipliers to estimate the number of indirect and induced jobs, attributable to their interventions in the tourism sector.
