Dave Wilson, Principal Consultant and Climate Change theme lead at Itad, will co-host a session at Building a Resilient Future this weekend in New York. This event is a part of the Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change programme of the Climate Week in New York City.

Convened by the Global Resilience Partnership and sponsored by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), the event outlines ambitious and transformative actions needed to build resilience, with the full day schedule designed to support the UN Climate Action Summit 2019.

Held on Sunday 22nd September, Dave will be sharing Itad’s work with the Global Resilience Partnership, as their learning partner at the venue, The New School in NYC. As lead author, Dave will reflect on the key messages from Resilience Insights: Lessons from the Global Resilience Partnership report. The report looks at how adopting resilience strengthening approaches could offer a solution to the world’s increasingly severe and frequent shocks and stresses, including food insecurity and extreme weather events.

The four key objectives for the day are as follows:

  • To provide the opportunity for all stakeholders to commit to actions and initiatives to build a resilient future, and to explore how by breaking out of institutional and sector silos these can be greater than the sum of their parts.
  • To highlight actions that grassroots organizations are taking, and how these organizations, and in particular women, can be part of decision making to take these actions to scale especially in the Least Developed Countries.
  • To set out how the latest knowledge and understanding on resilience can be used to build and invest in adaptive, resilient and transformative communities and economies.
  • To provide a highly interactive space to explore and identify new strategies, collaborations, and partnerships to advance and track the implementation of the actions and initiatives announced on the day.

“Dedicated to reinforcing the focus on resilience and the commitments expected to be made at the UN Climate Action Summit, this event will feature innovative, interactive and participatory sessions for participants to share their actions and commitments for a transformative and resilient future. Participants will learn from each others experiences and discover how to embed resilience into actions and achieve the SDGs.”

All details of the event, including the event schedule, a list of speakers, documents, and access to the event’s app can be found on the Building a Resilient Future microsite. Also, be sure to be across Itad’s Twitter account, which will also present insights throughout the event.
