Dan Johnson is a Principal Consultant at Itad, bringing 10 years’ experience as an economist and evaluator across government and consulting. He has significant experience in policy analysis, appraisal and evaluation, with a strong track-record of delivering robust, high-impact work that informs decision-making and shapes public policy. Dan is an experienced project manager and director, specialising in complex evaluations which have real-world policy impact and influence. He has a wide range of policy interests and has led major evaluations for many public bodies including the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and Department for Business and Trade.
Dan is a value for money expert and has significant experience in developing cost-benefit analysis, 5E’s frameworks, and rubrics-based evaluation. When working in the civil service, Dan led economic analysis and value for money assessments for major projects and policies across a range of departments including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice, and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. He also led the analysis for complex business cases in the Vaccines Taskforce during 2021 and helped establish the Impact Function at the UK Infrastructure Bank (now National Wealth Fund).
