Location: Brighton, hybrid You don’t need to be in the office every day, travel to the office would be expected for key company and team events which are typically once a month. Contract: 12 month fixed term contract Hours: Full time 37.5 per week Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience Closing date: 31st January 2024 We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Principal Consultant to cover a maternity leave in Itad’s Inclusive Growth and Climate Change practice. The consultant will be responsible for leading technical aspects of ongoing impact investing MEL work and pursing new opportunities to expand the portfolio in this area. Thematic focus This role is with our Inclusive Growth and Climate Change practice. Our support to clients encompasses a range of economic development and climate change projects including; climate finance, impact investing and innovative finance, markets systems development, agriculture, natural resource management / nature-based solutions, private sector development, resilience, social business and supply chains, financial inclusion, youth employment, infrastructure and cities and women’s economic empowerment. The role will principally focus on our impact investing and climate finance work. Itad is developing a strong track record of conducting monitoring, evaluation and learning in this area. It is an emerging sector, with an intention of bringing together capital markets and development sectors so that finance can be deployed for transformative change that addresses the climate crisis and leads to welfare improvements for the poor and marginalised, including in developing country contexts. The emerging portfolio comprises high profile evaluations and advisory services that support foundations, donors and private clients to manage their portfolios of grants and investments to business. We work across a range of sectoral and cross cutting issues including health, climate change, financial services, and agribusiness. The role You will play a central role in the strategic, technical and managerial delivery of Itad’s impact investing and climate finance work. Leadership responsibilities will be commensurate with experience. You will also support activities and projects across the wider practice. A core part of the role will involve taking forward business development and expanding our portfolio of impact investing / climate finance MEL assignments. The successful candidate will lead and support the technical and managerial delivery of such assignments, as a senior evaluator and advisor. They will also take on quality assurance as project director across a portfolio of projects. The core technical strengths of all our consultants are focused around four key areas: Evidence Advocate: using robust evidence to support clients and shape global debates; Change Agent: guiding clients in reflecting, learning and managing change; Project Manager: building high performing project teams that deliver quality and commercial targets; Trusted Advisor: building and shaping long term relationships with clients and partners that add value and deliver commercial success. The candidate You should have significant experience of conducting monitoring, evaluation and/or research in international development. You should also have experience in private sector development, investment or climate finance. You will have experience of, and an appetite for, business development and ideally have a personal network and understanding of the sector to support this. Professional Expertise & Key Competencies Technical expertise and experience in the measurement and management of impact investing and/or climate finance. Proven track record of designing and implementing portfolio-wide evaluation and learning systems. Evidence informed policy making / decision making, supporting research into use. At least one major aspect of data collection and analysis, e.g. qualitative methods, survey design, survey sampling, quantitative statistical analysis. Experience and proven success in managing and leading monitoring and evaluation assignments for a range of international clients, or as a staff member within an international development consultancy company, major aid agency or NGO. Ability to quickly develop professional relationships with other Itad team members, clients and potential clients. Strong analytical and technical writing skills with a proven ability to produce and summarise complex evidence-based findings in a clear and engaging style.
