Good M&E is essential to effective management but is surprisingly hard to do well and is often neglected. Good M&E is also the basis of successful planning and budgeting but these key activities are often not effectively linked.   Areas of expertise Our approach to Monitoring and evaluation is multidisciplinary – connecting technical processes with the social, economic and institutional elements of sustainable livelihoods. We assist agencies and programmes to design, install, manage and review monitoring systems, for programmes and projects, country portfolios, public sector management and poverty reduction strategies. We also undertake evaluations of institutions, programmes and partnerships. We use the logical framework approach for investments and work with the concept of a results chain for wider sectoral initiatives, public expenditure management and policy development.
