60 Seconds with…Alice Lawrence

Our ‘60 Seconds with…’ blogs are designed to provide a quick run down of what our staff do here at Itad. Here is what Alice had to say:

What’s your job here at Itad?

I started at Itad just over 3 years ago as an Administrative Officer, I now work as the Executive Assistant.

What does that involve?

What doesn’t it involve?! My role is extremely varied with no one week being like the last week. I work within our HR team on tasks such as recruitment, staff development reviews, developing company policies and support the Senior Management Team. However over the last year much of my time has been invested in establishing our Duty of Care policies and procedures and supporting others to ensure that we deploy our staff and consultants safely into the field to enable them to carry out their work.

How did you get into the field?

I didn’t intend to work in this field, I studied art and creative advertising, but realised that wasn’t going to earn me much of a living! I had always wanted to live in Brighton so moved down here and found the advert for the Administrative Officer position at Itad. I think what drew me to Itad was the people that work here and the companies values and that’s part of what’s kept me here. The company has a genuine interest in developing and supporting staff in their career development.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

As I mentioned, the role is varied and the company is growing. It’s really interesting observing the changes and trying to support the company to adapt to the growth. I really enjoy the teams that I work in (Business Support and HR) and the way that we support each other, share ideas and problem solve together.

What new innovations/methods have you noticed in your sector?

I don’t work on the technical side, but what I have noticed is how the sector is developing its awareness of its Duty of Care responsibilities to travellers. Itad has invested a lot of time in developing our understanding and awareness of security issues when travelling, through developing procedures, seeking feedback from our consultants, working with Safer Edge and our partners and clients. We still have more work to do to get our processes right and to ensure that our travellers understand them, but we have moved a long way forward over the last year.

Recent highlight/job wins?

Achieving our re-accreditation of our Investors in People standard!

Most interesting question you have been asked recently?

Hmmm…probably this set of questions!

Favourite place you have visited as part of your job?

Clanistan! Not a real place, but I don’t get out of the office much! This is the made up location in Oxfordshire where we send our consultants on Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) with Safer Edge. I got to go with them last year, I learnt a lot and really enjoyed the week. You can read more about it in Sarah’s blog here.
